Kokura English School in Bashaku, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka is hiring a freelance English instructor. Here, patient teaching, cultural awareness and reliability matter as much as excellent English.
Who we’re looking for
Patient, reliable teachers who can support Japanese adult beginners.
Required
- Currently living in Kitakyushu City and able to attend an in-person interview promptly; planned relocation is not sufficient.
- Native-level English and Japanese at JLPT N2 level or above, sufficient to explain lessons and support students. No certificate required; assessed at interview.
- At least one year and 100 English lessons taught, including adult teaching experience.
- Valid permission for paid work in Japan. No visa or change-of-status sponsorship.
- Reliable recurring availability and an intention to work with us for at least one year.
Preferred
- Experience teaching Japanese adult beginners.
- Experience living or working in Japan; CELTA, TESOL, TEFL or similar qualifications.
Nationality and a university degree are not requirements.
Pay & contract
Up to ¥2,500 following performance review. Increases are not automatic.
- Lesson block
- 60 minutes: 15 minutes of material review + a 45-minute lesson. Both are paid; regular reports and homework checking are not required.
- Contract
- Freelance initially. Part-time employment may be considered on request, subject to mutual agreement and the school’s needs.
- Assignments
- Lesson assignments depend on student demand and your availability.
- Transportation
- Actual public-transport expenses, up to ¥5,000/month, via the reasonable route registered at hiring. No free staff parking.
- Payment
- Month-end closing; paid on the 15th of the following month.
Schedule & training
Schedule
- Approximately 1–3 days/week, agreed together. Side jobs permitted.
- Monday–Sunday, 10:00–17:00.
- Friday and Saturday, 17:00–22:00: optional.
Paid initial training
- 8–10 hours over about 3–4 weeks, at ¥2,000/hour.
- School materials, lesson observation and practice teaching.
- Initial review after three months, with no reduction in the starting rate.

Kokura English School is at Space Taki 103, 2-1-29 Bashaku, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka 802-0077. It is a five-to-six-minute walk from Tanga Station, and public transport is recommended.

日本人の成人初心者に寄り添い、丁寧な準備と時間・約束を大切にできる方。
必須条件
- 応募時点で北九州市在住で、すぐに対面面接に来られる方（転居予定の方は対象外）。
- ネイティブレベルの英語力とJLPT N2相当以上の日本語力。日本語で説明・サポートできること。資格証明は不要で、面接で確認します。
- 英語指導歴1年以上・通算100レッスン以上、成人への指導経験。
- 日本で有償就労できる資格・許可。ビザ取得・在留資格変更の支援はありません。
- 定期的な担当枠を確保でき、原則1年以上続ける意思がある方。
歓迎条件
- 日本人の成人初心者への指導経験。
- 日本での生活・勤務経験、CELTA・TESOL・TEFL等の資格。
国籍・大学の学位は問いません。
報酬・契約
評価に応じて最大2,500円。自動昇給ではありません。
- 1枠の内容
- 教材確認15分＋レッスン45分の計60分。準備も報酬に含み、通常のレッスン記録・宿題確認は不要です。
- 契約形態
- 最初は業務委託。希望者は、ご本人の希望とスクールの状況を踏まえ、パート雇用への切り替えを相談・検討します。
- 担当枠
- 生徒の予約状況と担当可能な時間に応じて依頼します。
- 交通費
- 登録した合理的な経路による公共交通機関の実費を月5,000円まで支給。無料の従業員用駐車場はありません。
- 支払日
- 月末締め・翌月15日払い。

担当時間
- 週1〜3日程度。曜日・時間は相談して決定。副業可。
- 月〜日曜 10:00〜17:00。
- 金・土曜 17:00〜22:00は希望者のみ。
報酬付きの初期研修
- 3〜4週間で合計8〜10時間。1時間2,000円。
- 教材の使い方、授業見学、模擬レッスンを実施。
- 開始から3か月で初回評価。期間中も単価の変更なし。
